How to Have Healthy Hair (And Why You Should)
Did you notice how having a good hair day gives you an instant pick-me-up, while a bad one has the opposite effect? This is because having great-looking hair is an instant confidence booster. There are many other benefits of healthy hair. Aside from giving you a nice ego boost, it's a good indicator of whether your body is receiving enough vitamins and nutrients. If your hair is dry, brittle, or easily breaks off , this can be a sign that you’re not getting enough nutrients such as protein or iron (which are needed to maintain hair health) in your system. How to have healthy hair from root to tip? Here are hair care habits to develop:
1. Wash your scalp and hair regularly.
Get your hair really wet with lukewarm water. Use a small amount of shampoo – about the size of a quarter – and gently massage it onto your scalp, which is where most of the oil buildup happens. Rinse well and dry your hair with a towel. Comb your hair with a wide-tooth comb, taking care not to yank or tug too hard to prevent hair damage like split ends. Let your hair air dry as much as possible, or use a cooler setting on your hair dryer.
Remember: straight hair gets oily more quickly, so it needs to be washed more often after every two days. Meanwhile, curly hair can be washed less.
2. Use a conditioner to restore moisture.
Apply conditioner from the mid-length to the ends of your hair as a treatment for split ends. Rinse and towel dry hair to make sure it absorbs the conditioner. Every once in a while, deep condition your hair by taking a generous amount of conditioner and applying it right to the roots of your hair. Then with a wide-toothed comb, run it through your hair from root to tip. Pull up your hair and clip together, leaving the conditioner on for 10 minutes up to an hour. That's how to have healthy hair.
